QUESTION
This is an economic discussion, not a political one: I am sure you have by now heard from at least two or three candidates for President of the United States. The economy is very much in focus with some of the candidates, not all, some candidates prefer to avoid the discussion all together. Either way, as students of economic, we can not help it to notice some of the arguments made. There are two main different sentiments out there. One, that this is a rigged economy, stacked to help those on top, and set against the working class. On the other, those who argue that free trade is fair trade and that we need to compete in a global economy filled with cheap labor and low wages. That is those on top success, the money will trickle down. There is no right or wrong for this part of the exercise, but, in your summation, what do you believe. That money corrupted our politics and laws are passed to aid the very rich at the expense of those who actually work? That money buys elections and that politicians are in the pockets of corporations? Or that instead, the recent changes have improved our capitalist system, that if money goes to the top, it will trickle down to the bottom and eventually everyone makes out alright. You won’t be graded for your political views, only for the discussion, whether or not you discuss it.
