Solutions to Common Core Standards and EducationRaendy, Ashley, Tisha and TiffanyPHL/320November 16, 2015Scott PhillipsAfter reading the article, we discussed, as a team, discussed a few solutions on thecommon core standards and explained why each one will work. The team identified the problemand agreed upon the following solutions that will resolve the problem. The first solutionconcerning the Common Core State Standards is for politicians to close the gaps. This solutionwill work due to the fact that the politicians will see that the Common Core Standards need to befixed because the students are not being held to high standards. A way to close the gaps is to puta cap on the amount of monies allocated to companies involved in with the testing. As wells asaddressing the compensation politicians get for enforcing common standards. Money should bediverted to schools and allowing teachers to modify their ways of teaching to accommodate themajority of students. The second solution is the Common Core State Standards is that the standards need tofocus more on student learning. This strategy will work because students will be getting theeducation they need as well as be held to high standards. One solution concerning the Common Core State Standards is for politicians to close thegaps. â[P]politicians seem willfully ignorant of the direct connection between opportunity andachievementâ[ CITATION Wel14 l 1033 ]. If there is not an opportunity for student learning toincrease, there will be no advancement because Common Core will become part of the problem. The goal of the common core standards is to standards promote equity by ensuring all studentsare well prepared with the skills and knowledge necessary to collaborate and compete with theirpeers in the U.S. the will help build vocabulary and improve their stamina. The goal of theCommon Core Standards is to aim students at a higher thinking and clearer expectations.Allowing students to learn from their mistakes plays a crucial role in learning. This solution willwork due to the fact that the politicians will see that the Common Core Standards need to befixed because the students are not being held to high standards. It will have a successful outcomebecause the new standards require that students to explain how they reached their conclusionswith an accurate answer. The Common Core allows teachers to spend more time with studentsreviewing the material to help students gain a thorough understanding of the material. This willallow the slow paced learners to cover the material multiple times to increase their understandingof the material being presented. The second solution concerning the Common Core State Standards is that the standardsneed to focus more on student learning. Mastering each standard prepares each student forcollege, career goals and life. It will promote parents and teacher to support the learningexperience. This solution produces a more positive learning process for each individual studentwithout singling them out. Each student would be allowed to grow as an individual and not behindered by a student that may learn at a slower pace. For our last solution would be to create a test with the input from teachers and staff thatwould include ways to make the test more diverse to the students. There is no such thing as aone size fits all for students. In doing so the test will capture the full learning capabilities of allstudents. It would allow more flexibility for the students who are falling behind without holdingback the students who are excelling. As a team we did our best to narrow down the biggest issues to come up with possiblesolutions. We knew after reading the articles that politics/politicians play a huge role oncommon core standards. They have the most influence in the school systems. Private companiescan compensate politicians to enforce certain versions of tests and consider them standard forstudents of certain grade levels. One of the biggest barriers we needed to get over was when we discussed the solution ofhow teaching methods should be focused on a studentâs learning styles was what influences thosestandards in the first place. That is when we realized that we would need to follow the moneyfrom companies to politicians.ReferencesBotzakis, S., Burns, L., & Hall, L. (2014).
